The Le
Mans and European FIA GT2 world champion is also a proven Trans-Am
winner and a likeable television personality.
Like many successful car racers, Justin Bell nurtured and developed
his passion for speed and competitive racing at an early age. With
natural talent and the encouragement of his father Derek Bell, a
five-time Le Mans champion, he started out fast and got faster, and
soon began carving his own place in history. Since beginning his
career in 1988, Justin has achieved many significant racing
accomplishments, including the 1997 FIA GT2 World Championship,
winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998 and second-place finishes in
Le Mans and Daytona, and a pair of SCCA Trans-Am wins.
Early in his career, Justin made consistent progress through a
variety of racing categories, while appearing in various television
programs. In 1993, he was co-host of the motor sports television
program 555 Performance World, which ran on Asia's largest
satellite network Star TV and was seen by over 80 million viewers.
This led to him hosting a six part series, The International
Young Driver of the Year on BBC television. Justin has also
worked for MTV and major radio stations worldwide.
Along the way he raced for major car manufacturers including Saab,
Peugeot, Porsche, BMW, Dodge and General Motors. For Dodge Viper, he
won the 1997 FIA GT2 world championship and the GT2 class at Le Mans
in 1998.
In 2000 Justin signed with General Motors as a driver for the
factory Corvette Racing team, finishing second in the Daytona 24
Hours, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Petit Le Mans. Bell also launched
his own racing school, the Justin Bell GT Motorsports Experience,
which was supported by General Motors and featured in numerous
magazines.
Justin next raced in a Derhaag Motorsports Corvette in the popular
Trans-Am Series for the BF Goodrich Tires Cup where he captured the AmerSuites
Rookie of the Year title for 2001. He finished on the podium in four out of
eleven races, including back-to-back wins at Laguna Seca and Houston, and
finished fifth in the championship.
He again contested the Trans-Am Series in 2002, finishing on the
podium five times. Unfortunately the season was hampered by lack of
funds and mechanical setbacks. Bell was also chosen to host a new
television show called Corvette: The American Dream airing on
Fox Sports Net/Fox C able Networks.
He started 2003 by recording an impressive Pole Position at the
Daytona 24 Hours, then raced World Challenge Touring Cars for Audi,
Grand Am for Mosler and Trans-Am for Corvette. Winning the Grand-Am
Finale at Daytona in the Corvette was a strong finish to the racing
year. Meanwhile, he also hosted an internationally distributed movie
for luxury automaker Bentley. Aided by his eloquent and personable
style, this top-quality production went on to win a prestigious
Telly Award.
Since 2004 Justin has raced a variety of cars in the Speed GT
Series, World Challenge and Daytona Prototypes at the Rolex Daytona
24 Hour race.
